Digital Audio Recording/Editing Using Pro Tools (online course)

Following are the items that will be covered in this course:

  • Power Point presentation on basic audio principles
  • microphone choice and techniques
  • software recording and techniques
  • record a "live" concert, seperate the individual songs, edit as needed, and burn to CD
  • bus effects
  • automate the mixdown
  • sequence with virtual instruments
  • record multiple takes and combine the best portions into one master take
  • work with the new score editor in Pro Tools (Sibelius) and the new midi editor
  • synthesis
  • programming and tweaking sounds
  • advanced bussing techniques
  • working with more advanced plug ins and effects
  • advanced automation techniques
  • loop recording

Online Course thru Seattle Pacific University:

  • January 16 thru March 18 2012

  • Prerequisite: Student must have Pro Tools 8, 9, or 10 installed on their computer and have a midi keyboard or controller connected.
  • Students must first register online below (or call 800 248-9699). Once registration is received, an email will be sent to the student with the SPU registration form to be completed. The student then emails this to SPU and will shortly receive and email from SPU on successful registration along with username/password and instructions for logging into the course.

  • Students are required to have acess to a Pro Tools system (hardware/software) complete with a midi or USB keyboard, microphone in order to complete the assignments.

  • $275 for tuition (directly to the instructor) and $124 for the credit (directly to SPU) for 2 graduate quarter credits.
