Teaching Music Composition Using Technology I

Designed to teach music teachers beginning concepts in music composition using music technology. The elements of music are discussed and learned after which the course departs on the study of units of structure in music (form). Harmonic content, chord progressions, cadences, and more advanced tips for good melodic writing are covered. The course is written (open ended) in PowerPoint so that teachers can modify it to fit their particular grade level, definitions, and teaching style. The course style presents a compositional concept, and is followed up with movie presentation tutorials using technology. The technology being used is Sibelius although Finale, MuseScore or Noteflight (free) may be used as a substitute. Designed to align with the Washington state CBPA’s.
